Barry Dunsmuir: Is The Kiwi inventor behind The Back Scrub Buddy.
Barry lives in the suburb of Pokeno, a small town located in the Waikato Region, in the North Island of New Zealand.
In 2023, Barry had suffered quite a serious shoulder injury while working. This injury had caused huge upper body mobility issues for Barry as physicality was a large part of his daily job.
It was also important for Barry to wash and keep his back as clean as possible on a daily basis, because of the physical job role he had. Any excess sweat would cause all sorts of skin problems on his back!
Barry was no longer able to reach his back to wash it due to his shoulder injury which caused the lack of mobility within his arm!
He could no longer use the common long handled shower back brushes anymore.
As a consequence, Barry spent a lot of time thinking about his physical predicament and decided to design and create a product for the purpose of simple back washing, without the need of using your arms!
13 months later, The Back Scrub Buddy was manufactured into a reality from it’s inital design by Barry months earlier.
He wanted to create a product that would also help others in the same position of limited upper body mobility, specifically the Elderly population.
